Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Coach Theory, how sessions work, and what to expect.

Getting Started

What is Coach Theory?

Coach Theory is an on-demand coaching platform built by CTEDU (Coach Training EDU). You can connect with a certified coach in minutes for a live, one-on-one session. No subscriptions, no long-term commitments.

How do I book a session?

Describe what you want to explore, pick a session length and coach experience level, set your budget, and you’ll be matched with a coach who’s ready right now.

How much does a session cost?

You name your own price before each session. There are no fixed rates or subscriptions. Pricing depends on session length and coach experience level. Your first two sessions are complimentary.

Do I need to prepare anything before a session?

Not really. Have a general idea of what you’d like to explore. It can be as simple as "I’m feeling stuck" or as specific as a decision you’re weighing.

About the Coaches

Who are the coaches?

Every coach on Coach Theory is trained and certified through CTEDU (Coach Training EDU), one of the largest coach training organizations in North America. You’re always working with a real, qualified professional.

Can I choose my coach?

We match you based on availability and your focus area. If you have a great session with someone, you can reconnect with that coach anytime.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No. Coaching is about clarity, goals, and moving forward. It’s not therapy, counseling, or medical advice. Coaches help you think through decisions, get unstuck, and figure out what’s next. If you’re dealing with a mental health concern, we’d encourage you to connect with a licensed therapist.

What’s the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Most people think of coaching like a sports coach or mentor — someone who’s already done what you’re trying to do and can give you advice based on their experience. Professional coaching is different. A coach won’t tell you what to do or give you tips to try. Instead, they’re a sounding board — someone trained to listen deeply and respond with curiosity, not judgment. You hear yourself think out loud, put ideas together, and find clarity you didn’t have before. It’s not mentorship. It’s borrowing someone else’s curiosity for a period of time.

What’s the difference between coaching, mentoring, and therapy?

Mentoring is when someone who’s done what you’re trying to do shares their advice and experience. Coaching is when a trained professional listens with curiosity and asks powerful questions so you can find your own clarity. Therapy is when a licensed clinician helps you process emotions, heal from past experiences, and address mental health concerns. Coaching focuses on the present and future.
